Sweet escapes, especially now in our post-Covid reality, are not only necessary but crucial. After a great deal of time spent staying safe and socially distant, I learned the importance of fun mini-retreats that allow us the freedom to realign with ourselves and take a much-needed breather from the stressors that may be surrounding us. This is something you can do on your own with a fabulous book, your favorite tunes, and a comfy duvet. Or you can take advantage of this precious moment in time to reconnect with your kiddos, your partner, your best friend, or even your potential Mate. While Covid regulations seemed restrictive, they provided us an opportunity to be creative and feel even more connected while staying safe. Some ways we did this were connecting in your own backyard (literally!) or hundreds of miles away, sweet escapes can be both fun and easy to plan. They can be experienced anywhere — from pitching a tent in the middle of your living room imagining yourself in the heart of Kenya or the redwood forests to taking a road trip to that quaint little town nearby or across the country. If traveling away from home is not in the cards at this time, you can do the next best thing by envisioning the trips you have enjoyed in the past. If you are longing for a spa vacation in the French Riviera or in the Rockies, for example, try this. If you have access to a tub, run yourself a luxurious bubble bath and fill the room with scented candles (or electric unscented candles for those who are uncomfortable with an open flame or sensitive to perfume). Make sure there is complete quiet or turn on music that is reminiscent of the place you wish you could go. Pour yourself a glass of wine or a cup of hot tea. Climb into in your bathtub and transport yourself to a time when you were there and envision what it looked like. Take in the scents, the sounds, the people, and the sights, and feel how you felt when you were there. Once you feel refreshed, take an imaginary flight back home in first class and step back into your life! The best part is that this time flying first class is absolutely free.
