David Applebaum’s Formula for Happiness

There is a wonderful, almost mystical law of nature that says four of the things that we want the most – happiness, gratitude, peace of mind and love are always attained when we give them to others. Find a good place to give. I choose Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston which does so much good for so many diverse people of need. ( www.imgh.org ). It is a very well run organization that I hold very dear to my heart. Data based studies have long shown that the one thing a person can do to create a joy filled life is to give of themselves. My suggestion is to find an organization that you believe in and participate. I smile from deep within my soul when I think of my work with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and ARC (Activities Recreation and Care for Adults with Downs Syndrome), but I would like to feature the Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston which does so much good for so many diverse people of need (www.imgh.org). It is a very well run organization that, in America’s most diverse city is the inclusive connection providing meals for thousands of homebound seniors and their pets, sustaining healthy and respectful lives for vulnerable populations and promoting interfaith and community dialogue. They support volunteerism by matching people who want to help with nonprofits that need the help.  Their SERVE HOUSTON program places young people throughout the community as AmeriCorps members. Interfaith Ministries builds bridges founded on the strength of shared human beliefs and values. It might be possible to give without love, but you cannot love without giving.
